EXCURSION A

Falassarna beach + Komolithi in Potamida

The distance from the hotel to Falassarna beach is more or less 1hour. Potamida village is on the way to Falassarna. The tour will start at ~ 13:30 and last ~5 hours (depending on the time that they wish to spend on the beach).

Potamida is a village in Kissamos municipality, 3.5km from Kastelli and 40km from Chania, wiht a population of 238 habitants.

Komolithi, a complex of mounds reminiscent of pyramids, is a unique geological phenomenon in this beautiful village. Komolithi consists of distinct hills of clay, which have acquired a beautiful form throughout the years due to erosion. Such a landscape can only be found in Komolithi and in Koufonisi Sitias. They are very close to the houses of the village, on a fertile piece of land, and their sticking out of the valley fields is what makes the landscape unique. Climbing and hiking on Komolithi is quite easy.

Falassarna beach consists of several sandy beaches of various length, all facing the West (which makes it a wonderful place to watch the sunset from). The sea is generally very clean and with lovely colours because of the sandy bottom.

In addition to the super sandy beaches and crystal clear sea, one of the main attraction is the fortified Hellenistic harbour. Because of a sudden uplift of the West of Crete 1500 years ago the harbour is now located inland.

EXCURSION B

Agia Triada Monastery, Stavros beach, Venizelos graves

(additional fee of 2 euros to enter the Monastery)

The tour will last ~4-h hours (depending on the time that they wish to spend on the beach).

The Agia Triada Monastry is a Greek Orthodox monastery in the Akrotiri peninsula and is probably the most impressive monastic complex of the final period of Venetian rule on Crete, due to both its scale and architectural form.

Stavros beach has been developed from a small fishing village into a tourist resort. The main beach is located east of the village, at the foot of the mountain and next to the picturesque harbor of Stavros village. Is formed within a circular bay completely isolated from winds. The bay reminiscent of the lagoon, has white sand and turquoise shallow waters.

Both Venizelos graves, next to each other, are in a beautiful park created with gardens, paved paths, stairs, terraces and benches under the shade of pine trees, but what gives awful beauty to this place, are the panoramic views in the sea area, the city of Chania and the whole region.
